Mount Marty traveled to Mitchell to faceoff against in state rival Dakota Wesleyan. The Lancers used an almost last second layup from
Cole Bowen to win 81-79. Mount Marty is now 8-12 overall and 4-8 in GPAC play. Dakota Wesleyan is now 9-9 overall and 5-5 in GPAC play.
Inside the Game
Mount Marty was tied with the Tigers at 41 in the first half when Cole Bowen sank a half court shot to give the Lancers a three point lead at the break. It was a back and forth game and that continued in the second half, the game was tied 12 different times and the teams changed the lead another 11 times throughout the game. With about six seconds left the Tigers and Lancers were tied at 79 when Mount Marty inbounded the ball to Cole Bowen, he went coast to coast making a jumper in the paint to take the lead with 0.6 seconds. DWU had one last attempt at a full court shot but it was no where close to the basket. The Lancers completed the season sweep over thier in-state rival DWU for the first time since 2019.Â
In the game, Mount Marty had 15 bench points, 5 fast break points, 7 points off of turnovers, 2-second chance points, and 36 points in the paint. The Lancers were 31-53 from the field shooting 58.3% as a team. From the three-point line, the Lancers were 7-15 shooting 46.1%. At the free throw line, the Lancers were 12-15. Mount Marty had 8 assists as a team, with 1 block and 4 steals. Tash Lunday led the Lancers in scoring with 30 points and added 8 rebounds. This was the second time in Tash's season he scored over 30 points. Cole Bowen had 23 points and added 5 rebounds himself Cole ended both half's with baskets to help the Lancers get the win. Kade Stearns had 5 points and Josh Arlt each had 4 points for Mount Marty .Lincoln Jordre had 4 points and added 2 rebounds. Will Turner added 9 points off the bench. Chase Altenburg had 4 points and Hunter Kotrous added 2 points in the win.Â

Mount Marty will travel to Fremont, NE on January 18th to face Midland University tipoff is 7:45 PM. The Lancers will then host Morningside University on January 21st tipping off at 3:45 PM.Â
