Mount Marty found its way to the Doane Pod Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers lost both games to the Tigers 4-10 and 11-14 in game two. Mount Marty is now 38-15 overall on the season.Â
Game One
Mount Marty watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-4 loss to Doane University on Saturday. Â Doane University scored on a single by #9, a single by #14, and a single by #29 in the second inning.
The Lancers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Doane University, giving up ten runs.
Doane University fired up the offense in the second inning, when #9 singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
MMU scored three runs in the fourth inning.  The Lancers big bats were led by
Zane Salley,
Kiko Nunez, and
Will Gardner, all driving in runs in the frame.
#33 led things off on the pitcher's mound for Doane University. The ace allowed five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
Zach Hegge toed the rubber for MMU, The pitcher went two innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Â
Heston Williams and
Zane Pollon entered the game from the bullpen, throwing four innings and three innings respectively.
Mount Marty racked up nine hits. Â Nunez, Salley, and
Billy Hancock each collected multiple hits for the Lancers. Â Hancock, Salley, and Nunez all had two hits to lead the Mount.
Doane University racked up 15 hits in the game. Â #14, #38, #9, #30, #22, and #29 each racked up multiple hits for Doane University. Â #14 led Doane University with three hits in four at bats. Â Doane University didn't commit a single error in the field. #9 had the most chances in the field with eight.
Game Two
Mount Marty fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 14-11 loss to Doane University on Saturday. Â Doane University scored on a double by #38 in the first inning, a single by #30 in the first inning, a single by #9 in the second inning, and a single by #29 in the second inning.
Despite the loss, the Lancers did collect ten hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Doane University had 17 hits on the way to victory.
Doane University opened up scoring in the first inning, when #38 doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
MMU notched three runs in the ninth inning. Â MMU's big bats in the inning were led by singles by
Kalub Ramirez and
Kiko Nunez.
Doane University scored seven runs in the third inning. Â Doane University batters contributing to the big inning included #22, #14, Â #29, and #2, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Myles Brown led things off on the hill for the Lancers,  The righty surrendered five runs on six hits over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Â
Noah McCandless and
Jett Hasegawa entered the game as relief, throwing five and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.
MMU socked five home runs on the day.
Caid Koletzky had a four bagger in the fifth inning.
Billy Hancock put one out in the third and fifth innings.
Will Gardner had a dinger in the fourth inning.
Zane Salley had a long ball in the second inning.
Mount Marty collected ten hits on the day. Â Nunez, Salley, and Hancock all collected multiple hits for MMU. Â Hancock, Salley, and Nunez each collected two hits to lead the Lancers.
Doane University racked up 17 hits. Â #22, #9, #14, #30, and #29 all managed multiple hits for Doane University. Â #22 went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Doane University in hits. Â Doane University was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. #9 had the most chances in the field with ten.
