In a hard-fought volleyball match on September 12, 2023, Mount Marty faced off against Mayville State. The final score was 3-1 in favor of Mayville State, with set scores of 25-18, 27-25, 19-25, and 25-16. Mount Marty is now 9-6  on the season and 2-0 in GPAC play. Here's a game recap based on the box score:

First Set (18-25): The match started with Mayville State taking an early lead in the first set. Mount Marty faced tough resistance from their opponents, struggling to find consistency in their attack. Julia Weber, the team's outside hitter, showed her prowess with six kills in the set, but Mayville State's strong blocking and defense gave them the edge. Despite a late push, Mount Marty couldn't catch up, and Mayville State claimed the first set 25-18.

Second Set (25-27): The second set was highly competitive, with both teams displaying their offensive firepower. Julia Weber continued to shine with six more kills, while Mia Furst added to the offensive effort with four kills of her own. Mount Marty showed resilience and improved their blocking and serving. However, Mayville State managed to edge out a close win, taking the set 27-25.

Third Set (25-19): Determined not to give up, Mount Marty rallied in the third set. Mia Furst, in particular, found her rhythm, contributing significantly with five kills. Athena Stanton, the team's middle blocker, also made her presence felt at the net with three kills and solid blocking. The improved team coordination paid off as Mount Marty took the third set 25-19.

Fourth Set (16-25): The fourth set saw Mayville State regaining their momentum. Despite efforts from Mount Marty's Ally Whitmire, who recorded an impressive 38 assists, and Julia Weber, who had another five kills, Mayville State dominated the set. Their strong attacking and defense proved to be the difference as they secured the set 25-16 and, with it, the match victory.

 Several players made significant contributions to the team's performance:

Julia Weber (Outside Hitter): Julia Weber led the team in kills with 12, showcasing her ability to score points for Mount Marty. Despite facing strong opposition, she remained a consistent offensive threat.

Mia Furst (Outside Hitter): Mia Furst also had a strong performance, recording 14 kills in the match. Her attacking efficiency was notable, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.

Ally Whitmire (Setter): Ally Whitmire, in her role as setter, tallied an impressive 38 assists. Her ability to set up the team's hitters played a crucial role in Mount Marty's offensive strategies.

Athena Stanton (Middle Blocker): Athena Stanton's performance at the net was outstanding, with 11 kills and three blocks. She was a key player in both offensive and defensive aspects of the game.

Katelyn Chytka (Libero): Katelyn Chytka, as the team's libero, contributed significantly to the defense with 21 digs. Her strong passing and digging skills helped keep the ball in play and set up the offense.

Gabby Miller (Middle Blocker): Gabby Miller recorded five kills and contributed defensively with two blocks. Her presence at the net added depth to Mount Marty's play.
