Volleyball: Lancers Fall To #13 Midland

Mount Marty hosted Midland in GPAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers lost in three sets. Mount Marty is now 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in the GPAC. 

Set 1: Mount Marty Shows Grit, but Midland Takes Control (17-25)

In the opening set, Mount Marty started with vigor, showing strong defensive plays and coordinated attacks. Julia Weber, the Outside Hitter, exhibited her offensive prowess with powerful spikes, keeping Midland on their toes. However, Midland managed to break through Mount Marty's defense, utilizing their own powerful attacks and effective blocks. The set ended with Midland gaining the upper hand, securing crucial points and ultimately taking the set 17-25.

Set 2: Mount Marty Fights Back, But Midland Holds Firm (22-25)

The second set was a closely contested battle, characterized by intense rallies and impressive displays of skill on both sides. Mia Furst, the Opposite Hitter for Mount Marty, demonstrated her attacking prowess with several well-placed kills. Mount Marty showcased resilience, making a strong comeback and challenging Midland at every step. Despite the valiant effort, Midland's persistent attacks and well-organized defense proved to be the difference as they secured the set 22-25.

Set 3: Nail-biting Finish, Midland Clinches the Match (24-26)

The third set witnessed the most intense moments of the match. Mount Marty displayed a never-give-up attitude, fighting point for point, and refusing to back down. Aubrey Herbolsheimer, the Opposite Hitter, showcased her determination with crucial kills. The set was a seesaw battle, with both teams giving their all. In the end, Midland managed to maintain their composure and secure the final points, clinching the set 24-26 and ultimately winning the match.

Despite the defeat, Mount Marty's resilience and spirited performance in each set were commendable. The match showcased the team's grit and determination, providing a solid foundation for improvement and growth as they move forward in their volleyball campaign.

Julia Weber (Outside Hitter): Despite a tough match, Julia Weber displayed offensive prowess with 14 kills. She was a key attacker for Mount Marty, striving to break through the opponent's defense.

Mia Furst (Opposite Hitter): Mia Furst contributed to the offensive efforts with 9 kills. Her determination and efforts were notable despite the challenging match.

Ally Whitmire (Setter): Ally Whitmire, as the team's setter, displayed excellent playmaking with 28 assists. She made efforts to set up the team's offense under challenging circumstances.

Katelyn Chytka (Libero): Katelyn Chytka showcased her defensive skills with 8 digs. She played a crucial role in the back row, trying to keep the ball in play.

Aubrey Herbolsheimer (Opposite Hitter): Aubrey Herbolsheimer contributed with 2 kills and showed resilience on the court despite facing strong opposition.

On September 20th Mount Marty will travel to Concordia with JV starting at 6:00 PM and Varsity to follow around 7:30 PM.
