Mount Marty baseball completed their first weekend series on Saturday. The Lancers defeated the Mustangs 5-3 and 6-4 on Saturday. The Lancers are now 3-1 on the season while Mount Mercy is now 1-3.
Game One
Mount Marty Secures Victory Over Mount Mercy
Mount Marty claimed a hard-fought victory against Mount Mercy with a final score of 5-3 in an intense baseball match-up.
Mount Mercy jumped ahead early in the first inning when Zach Barden's single drove in Tyler Dahm, giving them a 1-0 lead. However, Mount Marty quickly responded in the second inning as Joe Gokie's single brought Ethan Wishon home, tying the game at 1-1.
The game remained deadlocked until the fifth inning when Mount Marty's offense exploded. Ethan Wishon's RBI single put them in the lead, followed by Shugo Kondo's RBI single and Vaughn Deming's two-RBI single, pushing Mount Marty's lead to 5-1.
Mount Mercy fought back in the seventh inning with Cedric Dunnwald's groundout and Matthew Murphy's RBI single, bringing them within two runs of tying the game. However, Mount Marty's pitching held firm, preventing any further scoring opportunities for Mount Mercy.
Slayder Watterson delivered a solid pitching performance for Mount Marty, allowing only one run over six innings, while Aspen Dahl closed out the game, securing the win. Kyle Lehmann started on the mound for Mount Mercy but faced challenges, ultimately taking the loss.

Game Two
Mount Marty Holds Off Mount Mercy in 6-4 Victory
In a tightly contested baseball matchup, Mount Marty secured a hard-fought win against Mount Mercy with a final score of 6-4.
Mount Marty took an early lead when Will Gardner launched a solo home run in the second inning, setting the tone for their offense. They added to their lead in the third with Bodi Wallar's RBI single, extending their advantage to 2-0.
Mount Mercy managed to get on the board in the fourth inning as Tyler Pecson grounded into a double play, allowing Joel Vaske to score an unearned run. However, Mount Marty responded in the seventh inning with a barrage of hits, including Wallar's two-RBI single and Gardner's RBI fielder's choice, pushing their lead to 6-1.
Mount Mercy fought back in the eighth inning with Bryce Brown scoring, narrowing the gap to 6-2. In the ninth inning, they attempted a late rally as Matthew Murphy's RBI single drove in two runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mount Marty's lead.
Zach Hegge delivered a strong pitching performance for Mount Marty, allowing only one run over six innings. Clayton Chipchase and Caden Eymann provided solid relief pitching to secure the win.
Despite the loss, Mount Mercy showed resilience, particularly in the late innings, with notable offensive contributions from Murphy and Brown.
