Lancers Battle in High-Scoring Shootout Against Concordia
YANKTON, S.D. — Mount Marty football put up a season-high 43 points but came up just short in a 52–43 shootout loss to Concordia (Neb.) on Saturday afternoon at Crane Youngworth Field.
Despite falling behind early, the Lancers (3-2, 2-2 GPAC) rallied from a 31–7 deficit in the third quarter to take a brief 35–31 lead in the fourth, fueled by a string of explosive offensive drives led by quarterback Rugby Ryken. Ryken went 45-for-74 for 424 yards and four touchdowns, while adding a rushing score.
Moshe Richmond was nearly unstoppable in the passing game, hauling in 11 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns, including a 9-yard go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter. Zoan Robinson added nine catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Jacob Carbajal and Kyle Hirsch combined for 12 receptions and a pair of key two-point conversions.
On defense, the Lancers were led by Isaac Crownover with 13 total tackles, followed by Cole Cripps with 11. Arthur Oliver made a major impact, forcing a fumble and returning it 43 yards for a touchdown, marking Mount Marty's second defensive score of the season. Amir Conley and Brock Lubbers each added interceptions for the Lancers.
Concordia (4-0 GPAC) was led by running back Carlos Collazo, who rushed for 283 yards and two touchdowns.
Mount Marty finished with 483 yards of total offense and dominated possession time (35:50). The Lancers converted 8-of-10 fourth downs while matching the Bulldogs with 32 first downs.
Mount Marty will look to bounce back on the road next week when they travel to Doane University on Saturday, October 11, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Crete, Nebraska.
