Lancers Win OT Thriller at Hastings

The Mount Marty University (MMU) men's basketball team staged a dramatic comeback, defeating Hastings College (HC) 91-87 in an overtime thriller on the road on December 10, 2025.

The Lancers (5-6, 4-2 GPAC) overcame a significant halftime deficit to secure the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) victory, while the Broncos (2-9, 1-5 GPAC) suffered a tough loss after dominating the first half.


Game Recap

Hastings came out firing, taking a commanding 41-29 lead into the half. However, the Lancers mounted a furious second-half comeback, outscoring the Broncos 47-35 to tie the game at 76-76 and force overtime. In the extra period, Mount Marty maintained their momentum, winning the overtime frame 15-11 to clinch the 91-87 victory.

Both teams shot exceptionally well from the field, with Hastings hitting 56.1% (32-57) and Mount Marty slightly behind at 54.4% (31-57). The Lancers found their stroke from deep, connecting on 44.4% (8-18) of their three-pointers, compared to 43.3% (13-30) for the Broncos. MMU's success at the free-throw line in the overtime period was crucial to their win.


Mount Marty's Key Performers

The Lancers featured a highly balanced attack, with five players scoring in double figures.

  • Sutton Arend was the high scorer for MMU with 26 points, shooting an efficient 9-of-14 from the field and grabbing 4 rebounds.

  • Mac Ryken provided a huge lift off the bench with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a clutch 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.

  • Jake Jensen scored 16 points and led the team with 7 rebounds.

  • Deegan Williams contributed 8 points, 3 rebounds, and led the team with 5 assists.

  • Damon Opdahl was perfect from the field (3-3) and three-point line (2-2) for 8 points.

  • Jackson Edman chipped in 5 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
