Omaha, NE – Season Opener

Mount Marty opened the 2025 season with a strong 10-4 victory over Mount Mercy, using a late-game offensive surge to secure the win. A six-run eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Joe Gokie, sealed the deal for the Lancers.


Game Summary

Early Lead for Mount Marty:
The Lancers got on the board first in the second inning with a solo home run by Lucas Kampshoff. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth behind an RBI double from William Johnson and a sacrifice fly by Jackson Noem.

Mount Mercy Responds:
The Mustangs roared back in the fifth with a power surge, hitting three home runs in the inning to take a 4-3 lead. Jaden Hackbarth (2-run HR), Jeremy Figueroa (solo HR), and Josh Notriano (solo HR) provided the spark.

Mount Marty Struggles in Game Two, Falls 10-0 to Mount Mercy

Omaha, NE – After an explosive late-game rally in their season opener, Mount Marty's offense was held in check in game two, falling 10-0 to Mount Mercy at Papio South.

Mount Mercy jumped ahead early, capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Lancers. A first-inning error in center field allowed the Mustangs to plate their first run. Two more unearned runs came across in the second after another miscue in the outfield, putting Mount Marty in a quick 3-0 hole.

The third inning proved to be the decisive blow, as Mount Mercy erupted for six runs. Nick Meyer started the rally with a solo home run, followed by an RBI single from Griffen Bushnell and a run-scoring single from Cedric Dunnwald. Jaden Hackbarth capped off the inning with a two-run homer to left, making it 9-0.

Mount Marty struggled to generate offense, managing just four hits while striking out 12 times. The Lancers' best scoring opportunity came in the fifth when they put two runners on base, but Mount Mercy's pitching shut down the threat.

Mount Marty starter Jake Stolnack (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (none earned) over two innings. Reliever Mitchell Hamrock was tagged for six runs in just one-third of an inning before Hunter Marso and Chase King finished out the game.

On the mound for Mount Mercy, Owen Coffman (1-0) was dominant, tossing 4.2 shutout innings with seven strikeouts, while Matt Kelliher finished the game with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief.
