YANKTON, S.D. – A five-run sixth inning propelled Mount Marty to an 8-6 victory over Dordt in a back-and-forth conference battle on Friday. The Lancers improved to 15-9 overall and 4-4 in GPAC play, while Dordt fell to 12-18 (1-7 GPAC).
Offensive Surge in the Sixth
After trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Mount Marty responded with a pair of runs to tie the game. Ryan Bachman's sacrifice fly plated Jalen Owens, and Aidan Chang followed with an RBI single to even things up at 3-3.
The Lancers took control in the sixth, capitalizing on Dordt's defensive miscues. Owens drove in a run with a single, Bachman delivered a two-run double, and Chang added an RBI double of his own before Will Gardner capped off the scoring with an RBI single. The offensive explosion gave Mount Marty an 8-3 lead.
Dordt's Late Push Falls Short
Dordt didn't go down without a fight, pushing across three runs in the seventh. Logan Templeton, Morgan Wilkins, and Joseph Schlesselman each contributed RBI hits, trimming the deficit to 8-6. However, the Lancer bullpen held firm, with Zach Hegge recording the final two outs to secure his second save of the season.

Templeton Sparks Early Offense
Dordt wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the first inning. Logan Templeton delivered a clutch two-run double to bring in Carson Belcher and Jimmy Twombly, giving the Defenders a quick 2-0 lead.
In the third inning, Dordt extended its lead when Templeton lifted a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Belcher to score and push the lead to 3-0.
Hughes Silences Lancer Bats
Dordt's right-hander Jared Hughes was stellar on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out two and didn't issue a walk, keeping the Lancers off balance throughout the game.
Mount Marty's Lone Run Comes in the Fifth
The Lancers' only breakthrough came in the fifth inning when Ryan Bachman grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Tyler Vance to cut the deficit to 3-1.
