Softball: Mount Marty Sweeps Waldorf Extends Winning Streak To Five

Mount Marty Edges Waldorf in Pitcher's Duel, 2-1

FOREST CITY, IA – In a tightly contested conference battle, Mount Marty secured a clutch 2-1 win over Waldorf, riding a dominant complete game from McKenzie Gray and timely hitting to get the job done.


Game Highlights

1st Inning – Early Action
Mount Marty got on the board right away, as Abby Johnson led off with a walk, moved around the bases, and scored on a Kayleen Jacinto RBI groundout. Waldorf answered in the bottom half, tying it up 1-1 after Noemi Tudon's two-out single drove in a pair.

4th Inning – Go-Ahead Knock
The Lancers retook the lead in the fourth. Alyssa Sosky singled and later came around to score on Makayla Hudson's RBI single to center. That run held up as the difference.


McKenzie Gray Shines in the Circle

McKenzie Gray was excellent:

  • 7.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

  • Faced 28 batters, threw 79 pitches (48 strikes)

She worked out of traffic throughout the game, relying on her defense.

FOREST CITY, IA – Mount Marty capped off a dominant doubleheader with an 8–1 win over Waldorf in Game 2, improving to 16-16 overall and 7-7 in GPAC play, behind a balanced offensive attack and a standout pitching performance from Makayla Graunke.

  • The Lancers wasted no time putting pressure on the Warriors.

3rd Inning – Manufacturing a Run

5th Inning – Nihi's Big Blast

  • The backbreaker came in the 5th when Lilinoe Nihi crushed a 3-run homer to right, her first of the year, making it 7–0.

6th Inning – Capping It Off


Pitching Dominance: Makayla Graunke

  • Complete Game (7.0 IP), 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 6 K

  • Faced 30 batters, threw 125 pitches (72 strikes)

  • Held Waldorf to just 3 hits and worked out of multiple jams with poise
