GRIM STRIKES EARLY, BUT LANCERS FALL 3–1 AT MORNINGSIDE

SIOUX CITY, IOWA — The Mount Marty University women's soccer team suffered a tough road defeat on Saturday afternoon, falling 3–1 to Morningside University in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play at Elwood Olsen Stadium.

Midfielder Rhyli Grim netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the first half to level the match, but two second-half strikes from the Mustangs handed the Lancers (8–2–3, 6–2–0 GPAC) just their second conference setback of the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 13' (MOR 1, MMU 0) — Morningside struck early in the opening period when Ida Carlsson finished off a double-assist combination from Fenna Van Mill and Gudrun Arnadottir in the 13th minute to put the Mustangs ahead 1–0.

  • 18' (MMU 1, MOR 1) — Mount Marty responded just five minutes later. Val Ruiz and Julianne Donnelly connected to set up Rhyli Grim, who beat the keeper in the 18th minute to equalize at 1–1 heading into the break.

  • 54' (MOR 2, MMU 1) — The Mustangs regained the lead early in the second half when Sophie Heine converted a pass from Trinay Garcia in the 54th minute.

  • 86' (MOR 3, MMU 1) — Morningside put the game away in the closing minutes as Rommane Groll buried a feed from Tuva Hammarlund in the 86th minute to seal the 3–1 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Morningside held a narrow edge in total shots at 14–12, including a 9–7 advantage in shots on target. The Mustangs also generated eight corner kick opportunities compared to seven for Mount Marty in a physical contest that saw three yellow cards issued.

In goal, Mount Marty split time between McKenzie Terp and Miranda Hood. Terp started and recorded one save against two shots on frame in the first half, while Hood made five saves on seven second-half shots on target. Morningside netminder Kyla Syverson earned the complete-game win with six saves.
