Football: Lancers Fall To #12 Dordt

#12 Dordt Overcomes Early Deficit to Pull Away from Mount Marty 41–13

YANKTON, S.D. — Despite Mount Marty jumping out to a 13–3 lead in the first quarter, 12th-ranked Dordt (IA) (6-2, 6-1) reeled off 38 unanswered points to secure a 41–13 victory over Mount Marty (3-6, 2-6) at Crane Youngworth Field.

The Lancers controlled the ball for 36:25 of game time and ran 78 total offensive plays, out-gaining the Defenders on first downs (21 to 20). However, big plays by Dordt's passing attack and a crucial 72-yard scoop-and-score fumble return altered the trajectory of the game.

Key Game Highlights

  • Lancers Surge Early: Mount Marty started fast, taking their opening drive to the house on a 13-yard touchdown run by Rugby Ryken. After a Dordt field goal, Ryken connected with Jacksen Wachholtz for a 36-yard touchdown strike with 2:50 left in the first quarter, giving the Lancers a 13–3 advantage.

  • Defenders Take Control: Dordt answered back in the second quarter. Quarterback Noah Strickfaden threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Harken (9 REC, 163 YDS, 1 TD), while running back Tyler Mantel added two short touchdown runs (9 yards and 1 yard) to give Dordt a 24–13 lead heading into halftime.

  • Defensive Game-Changer: On the opening play of the second half, Dordt's defense delivered the knockout blow. On a strip-sack shared by Isaac Kacmarynski and Jayden Weinzetl, Dordt's Zach Quiring scooped up a loose fumble and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown, widening the lead to 31–13.

  • Volume Passing: Mount Marty QB Rugby Ryken threw 48 passes, completing 33 for 292 yards, 1 TD, and 0 interceptions. Rodney Broadnax (7 REC, 68 YDS) and Jacksen Wachholtz (7 REC, 58 YDS, 1 TD) served as his primary targets.
