Softball: Lancers Come Up Short Against Northern State

The Mount Marty Lancers faced a challenging road trip to Northern State, dropping both ends of the doubleheader. Despite a late surge in Game 1 that forced extra innings, the Lancers couldn't overcome a potent Wolves offense.

Game 1: Northern State 4, Mount Marty 3 (8 Innings)

The Lancers were just three outs away from a shutout victory, but a dramatic sixth-inning comeback by Northern State sent the game into extras.

  • Arin Eaton: Delivered the biggest hit for the Lancers, a two-run single in the 5th inning that gave Mount Marty a 3-0 lead.

  • Jacey Hayen: Turned in a strong performance in the circle, holding the Wolves scoreless through five innings before running into trouble in the 6th. She finished with 5.0 IP and 1 strikeout.

  • Kayleen Jacinto: Continued to be a reliable bat in the lineup, finishing 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

  • Late Rally: The Lancers capitalized on errors in the 5th, with Alyssa Sosky driving in a run on a fielder's choice to spark a three-run frame.

Ultimately, a bases-clearing double by Northern State in the 6th tied the game, and a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 8th handed the Lancers a heartbreaking loss.

Game 2: Northern State 8, Mount Marty 0 (5 Innings)

The nightcap proved difficult for the Lancers as Northern State's pitching limited Mount Marty to just four hits in a run-rule shortened contest.

  • Kayleen Jacinto: Remained a bright spot on offense, recording her second double of the day to finish 1-for-2.

  • Kalli Boom: Reached base twice, finishing 1-for-1 with a single and a walk.

  • Sara Ocegueda-Aguilar: Provided a pinch-hit single in her lone appearance of the game.

  • Pitching: Lainey Van Zee and Madison Justesen shared duties in the circle, but the Wolves' bats were relentless, tallying 10 hits across five innings.
