Box Score 2 SIOUX CITY, IA – Both the Mount Marty men's and women's tennis programs ran into a formidable Kansas Wesleyan (KWU) squad this weekend. While the Coyotes secured the overall team wins, the Lancers showed significant grit at the top of their rotations.
Men's Highlights: Gomez Battles in Three Sets
The Lancer men were led by a standout performance from Ignacio Gomez at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set 4-6, Gomez rallied to take the second 6-4, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker. He ended up winning.
At No. 1 singles, Marcos Moreno put up a solid fight in a 6-3, 6-3 loss, while the duo of Moreno and Gomez took a game off the Coyotes in a 6-1 No. 1 doubles match. Short-handed at the bottom of the order, MMU conceded the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
Women's Highlights: Strong Showing at the Top
The Lancer women mirrored the men's effort with a competitive showing in the lead flights. Maria Azul Medina Loboand Alexandra Salazar teamed up for a tough No. 1 doubles battle, holding their own before falling 6-3.
In singles play, Medina Lobo pushed her opponent at the No. 1 spot in a 6-2, 6-2 finish, while Salazar (No. 2) and Camila Lopez (No. 3) also battled through several long rallies. Similar to the men, the women were forced to concede the final two singles points due to a limited roster.
