Game Recap: Softball |

Softball: Lancers Open Season With A Neutral Site Split

The Mount Marty softball team split their double-header on February 8th, showcasing a dominant complete-game pitching performance in the first game before falling just short in a tight battle against Benedictine in the second.

Game 1: Mount Marty 5, Culver-Stockton 1

The Lancers controlled the opener behind a stellar performance in the circle and a massive four-run fifth inning.

  • Jacey Hayen (Pitching Gem): Hayen was the story of the game, tossing a 7.0-inning complete game. She allowed just one run on six hits while striking out four to earn the win.

  • Kalli Boom: Delivered the knockout blow in the 5th inning with a two-RBI single that scored Brooke Richardson and Joslynn Simmons.

  • Kayleen Jacinto: Anchored the offense from the top of the order, going a perfect 3-for-4 and scoring a run.

  • Makayla Hudson: Came through with a clutch two-out, 2-RBI single in the 5th to break the game open.

  • Brooke Richardson: Put the Lancers on the board first with an RBI double in the 3rd inning.

Game 2: Benedictine (KS) 5, Mount Marty 4

The nightcap was a defensive struggle that saw the Lancers jump out to an early lead, but they were unable to reclaim it after Benedictine's middle-inning surge.

  • Arin Eaton: Provided the power at the plate, blasting a two-run triple in the second inning to cap off a four-run rally.

  • Alyssa Sosky: Ignited the scoring with a two-run single in the second and finished the game with 2 RBI and a run scored.

  • Alyssa Krause: Stayed consistent in the heart of the order, recording a multi-hit game by going 2-for-4.

  • Lainey Van Zee: Provided strong relief in the circle, throwing 3.0 innings and allowing only one run while striking out four.
