Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball: Lancers Split with Concordia

The Mount Marty Lancers opened GPAC play with a hard-fought doubleheader split against Concordia University (Neb.) on the road. After a quiet series opener, the Lancers used a stellar starting pitching performance and timely power to secure a victory in the nightcap.

Game 1: Concordia 6, Mount Marty 2

In the first game of the afternoon, the Lancers struggled to find an answer for Bulldogs starter Alex Johnson, who limited Mount Marty to just three hits in a complete-game effort.

  • Drew Ryken: Was a bright spot for the offense, reaching base multiple times and scoring the team's first run in the 3rd inning. He also picked up an RBI in the 7th after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

  • Corbett Freeman: Drove in a run with a groundout in the 3rd to briefly pull the Lancers within one.

  • Conor Michaud: Recorded one of the Lancers' few hits, finishing the game 1-for-3.

  • Kaden Harris: Took the loss on the mound, battling through 4.1 innings and striking out two while facing a potent Concordia lineup.

Game 2: Mount Marty 3, Concordia 2

The Lancers bounced back in a major way in Game 2, relying on a dominant start from Cade Sudbeck and a high-leverage bullpen performance to even the series.

  • Kimo Wilinski: Set the tone early by launching a solo home run to center field in the 1st inning, giving the Lancers an early 2-0 cushion.

  • Tyler Vance: Provided the eventual game-winning RBI in the 5th inning with a clutch double to left-center that scored Drew Ryken. Vance finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles.

  • Cade Sudbeck (W): Turned in a masterpiece on the mound, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits while striking out five to earn his second win of the season.

  • Aspen Dahl (S): Came on in the 9th and slammed the door shut, needing only five pitches to retire the side and secure his first save.

  • Jalen Owens: Used his speed to manufacture the first run of the game, scoring on a wild pitch after reaching base earlier in the frame.
