Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball: Lancers Fall To Morningside

In a high-powered GPAC showdown, Mount Marty went toe-to-toe with Morningside University. While the Mustangs took both games of the doubleheader, the Lancers showed incredible heart, nearly pulling off a massive nine-run comeback in the series finale.

Game 1: Morningside 16, Mount Marty 4

Morningside's offense proved why they are at the top of the conference, using five home runs to pull away early in the seven-inning opener.

  • Lancer Power: Ethan Synovec provided a spark for Mount Marty, launching a two-run home run to center field in the 6th inning.

  • Mid-Game Rally: The Lancers put up a four-run 6th inning. Along with Synovec's blast, Cooper Mlnarik drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Daniel Vonnegut crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

  • Solid Relief: Mitchell Hamrock stepped into a difficult situation and provided 4.0 innings of work, striking out three Mustangs.

  • On the Bases: Jalen Owens remained active on the basepaths, recording a hit and a stolen base.

Game 2: Morningside 11, Mount Marty 10

In one of the most thrilling games of the season, the Lancers entered the bottom of the 9th inning trailing 11-4 and proceeded to score six runs, coming just inches away from a legendary walk-off.

  • The 9th Inning Surge: Mount Marty refused to go quietly, putting together a massive rally:

    • Ethan Synovec ignited the crowd with his second three-run home run of the day.

    • Tyler Vance followed up with a clutch two-RBI single to bring the score within two.

    • Daniel Vonnegut beat out an infield single to drive in another run, making it a 11-10 ballgame.

  • Iron Man Outfield: Ethan Synovec finished the game with 3 RBIs, while Daniel Vonnegut turned in a 3-for-5 performance.

  • Vance at the Top: Tyler Vance reached base three times, recording two hits, two RBIs, and a double.

  • Clutch Catching: Liam Forsyth went 2-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly and a run scored.
