Softball Wraps Up Season At Hastings

Mount Marty traveled to Hastings, Nebraska, for a GPAC doubleheader. While the Lancers' offense exploded for 19 hits across the two games, Hastings used the long ball in the final innings of both contests to narrowly edge out the Lancers.

Game 1: Hastings 5, Mount Marty 2

The series opener was a tense defensive battle that remained tied until the very last swing.

  • Early Triple: Kayleen Jacinto wasted no time, triples to right field in the 1st inning to score Kalli Boom and give the Lancers an immediate 1-0 lead.

  • Tying it Up: After falling behind, the Lancers clawed back in the 4th when Brigid McGill laced an RBI single up the middle to knot the score at 2-2.

  • Pitching Effort: Madison Justesen and Lainey Van Zee combined to hold Hastings to just four hits through the first six innings.

  • Late Heartbreak: The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the 7th, when Hastings' Lauren Lee hit a two-out, three-run walk-off home run to steal the victory.

Game 2: Hastings 10, Mount Marty 8

The nightcap featured an offensive explosion from both sides, with the lead changing hands four times in a high-scoring affair.

  • First Inning Fireworks: The Lancers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st, punctuated by a towering two-run home run from Jayden Simpkins.

  • Jacinto's Power: Kayleen Jacinto continued her monster day, going 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in the 6th inning to keep the Lancers within one.

  • McGill's Clutch Bat: Brigid McGill was a force in the lineup, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a game-tying RBI double in the top of the 7th that made it 8-8.

  • Doubles Galore: The Lancers peppered the gaps all afternoon, recording five doubles from Jacinto, Brooke Richardson, Alyssa Krause (2), and McGill.

  • The Long Ball Decides it: Much like the first game, Hastings found the late heroics they needed, hitting a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th to finalize the sweep.
