Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball: Lancers Season Comes To An End At GPAC Tournament

he Mount Marty baseball season came to a close this weekend at Sherman Field in Lincoln, Nebraska. While the scoreboard didn't favor the Lancers in the GPAC Tournament, the team left everything on the diamond, pushing the conference's top two seeds to the absolute brink in a pair of defensive masterpieces.

Game 1: #2 Concordia 4, Mount Marty 1

In the tournament opener, the Lancers went toe-to-toe with the high-powered Bulldogs. While Concordia utilized a few timely hits to build an early lead, the Mount Marty pitching staff and defense kept the game within reach until the final out.

  • Pitching Grit: Tony Suarez was sensational in relief, coming into a high-pressure environment and throwing 3.1 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits while striking out eight Bulldog batters to give the Lancers a fighting chance.

  • The Breakthrough: Mount Marty broke the shutout in the 8th inning when Tyler Vance sparked a rally. Senior Cooper Mlnarik then delivered a clutch RBI single to center, cutting the deficit and shifting the momentum.

  • Battling at the Plate: The Lancers actually out-hit the Bulldogs 10 to 7. Tyler Vance, Drew Ryken, and Liam Forsyth all recorded multi-hit games, demonstrating the depth of the Lancer lineup.

Game 2: #3 Morningside 1, Mount Marty 0

If Game 1 was a battle, Game 2 was a legendary duel. In a season-defining performance, Mount Marty stood tall against the Mustangs in a game where hits were hard to come by and every pitch felt like a championship moment.

  • A Masterclass on the Mound: Kaden Harris turned in one of the best performances of his career. He navigated 6.0 innings, allowing only one run on six hits against one of the most dangerous offenses in the GPAC. Jake Stolnack and Aspen Dahl followed with 3.0 innings of perfect hitless relief.

  • Double Trouble: The Lancers threatened throughout the afternoon, out-hitting Morningside 10 to 6. Liam Forsyth and Corbett Freeman both smoked doubles, but the Lancers left runners on base.

  • Ironclad Defense: The Lancers played error-free baseball for 9 innings, backed by a pitching staff that did not allow a single extra-base hit the entire game.

  • Freeman's Spark: Corbett Freeman was a bright spot in the finale, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, consistently putting pressure on the Mustang defense.

Lancer Tournament Leaders

A Season of "Lancer Grit"

Though the tournament run ended prematurely, the Lancers' performance in Lincoln was a testament to the program's culture. Holding the #2 and #3 seeds in the conference to a combined five runs over 18 innings is a feat that speaks to the talent and determination of this roster.
