LANCERS EXPLODE IN SECOND HALF FOR 5–1 HOME OPENING VICTORY OVER DAKOTA STATE
YANKTON, S.D. — The Mount Marty University women's soccer team delivered a high-powered offensive display at Crane Youngworth Stadium on Wednesday evening, surging past Dakota State University 5–1 in front of a home crowd.
A second-half onslaught broke open a tight match, seeing the Lancers net four goals after the interval to seal a dominant non-conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED

39' (MMU 1, DSU 0) — Following a physical opening half-hour that included an early yellow card against Mount Marty's Baylee Beck, the Lancers struck first. Beck connected with senior midfielder Alexia Valdez, who buried her first goal of the season in the 39th minute to break the scoreless tie.

48' (MMU 2, DSU 0) — Mount Marty wasted no time expanding their lead straight out of the break. Kendra McKinney set up Julianne Donnelly just under three minutes into the second period to give the Lancers a 2–0 cushion.

61' (MMU 3, DSU 0) — The floodgates opened midway through the half when Liz Stordahl fed Rhyli Grim for her first strike of the campaign.

63' (MMU 4, DSU 0) — Less than two minutes after setting up Grim's goal, Liz Stordahl got on the scoresheet herself, finishing off an assist from Donnelly to push the advantage to 4–0.

81' (MMU 5, DSU 0) — The Lancers capped off their scoring surge in the 81st minute when Mary Stordahl finished a pass from freshman Avery Hoskins.

88' (MMU 5, DSU 1) — Dakota State got late consolidation when Aislyn Holden scored off an Ella Pletcher assist with two minutes remaining in regulation.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Mount Marty completely controlled the pace and territory, outshooting the Trojans 20–3 overall and putting 14 of those attempts on frame. The Lancers also held a 5–1 advantage in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Miranda Hood earned the victory in net for Mount Marty, stopping two of the three shots she faced. On the other end, Trojans netminder Ivey Winckler faced relentless pressure, making nine saves in a busy 90-minute shift.

UP NEXT Mount Marty will look to keep their momentum rolling as they continue non-conference play before kicking off Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action next month. The Lancers will be on the road against York on August 29th before returning home against Nebraska Wesleyan on September 9th.
