Men's Soccer: Mount Marty Falls To (RV) Northwestern

YANKTON, S.D. — The Mount Marty University men's soccer team suffered its first conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 4–1 to Northwestern College in Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) action at Crane Youngworth Stadium.

Northwestern built a comfortable cushion with three first-half strikes before holding off Mount Marty's second-half push, dropping the Lancers to 4–3–1 overall and 1–1–0 in GPAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 20' (NWC 1, MMU 0) — Northwestern opened the scoring midway through the first period when defender Gorka Ilundain capitalized on an unassisted chance to put the Red Raiders ahead 1–0.

  • 25' (NWC 2, MMU 0) — Five minutes later, Bram Zwinkels connected with Emerson Brazones to double Northwestern's lead.

  • 32' (NWC 3, MMU 0) — Zwinkels notched his second assist of the opening half in the 32nd minute, setting up Daniel Lindahl for a three-goal Red Raider advantage heading into the break.

  • 54' (NWC 4, MMU 0) — Northwestern extended its margin early in the second period when Brazones set up Rasmus Morrison for a strike in the 54th minute.

  • 77' (NWC 4, MMU 1) — Mount Marty continued to battle and broke through in the 77th minute. Midfielder Findlay Green picked out James Starkey, who converted for his team-leading seventh goal of the season to get the Lancers on the board.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Both teams generated plenty of attacking chances, with Northwestern holding a slight 16–15 edge in total shots and a 13–6 advantage in shots on target. Set pieces were dead even, as both sides earned five corner kicks apiece.

In goal, Esteban Gomez made nine saves for Mount Marty under consistent pressure across 90 minutes. Northwestern goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini picked up the win, making five saves on six shots on frame.
