Head Coach Mike Woodley begins a new era in Lancer Athletics being the first football coach in Mount Marty history. Previous to Mount Marty Woodley was the Head Coach at Grand View University. Woodley was the founder of Grand View football and in just eleven seasons, built one of the top programs in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).  While at Grand View, Woodley accumulated a record of 93-35 while leading the Vikings to seven playoff appearances, seven consecutive conference titles, and the 2013 NAIA National Football Championship. 2013 was a special year for the Vikings. Woodley’s team went 14-0 overall, won the NAIA National Championship, finished the season ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation and Woodley was named the AFCA NAIA National Football Coach of the Year. He was voted the MSFA Midwest Coach of the Year in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2014 and the Heart of America Conference Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017. Woodley's overall career coaching record at the collegiate level stands at 106-53.

Prior to Grand View, Coach Woodley spent four years as the athletic director and head football coach at Sam Rayburn High School in Houston, Texas. He was a nine-year assistant coach at Iowa State University, head coach at St. Ambrose University, Osage High School, Fort Dodge High School, and West Des Moines Valley High School, an assistant coach at Waterloo East High School, and a graduate assistant at the University of Iowa.

Woodley is an inductee to the Iowa High School Football Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame and is a Hall of Fame member of the University of Northern Iowa, where he was an All-American, and at Waterloo East High School. He won Coach of the Year honors at every school he has coached at and was the NAIA District 15 Coach of the Year while at St. Ambrose following the team’s victory over I-AA power Western Illinois.

Woodley’s name is synonymous with athletics in the state of Iowa as his sons are all involved in coaching. Brian is the head football coach at Johnston High School; Joe serves as Grand View’s associate head coach and defensive coordinator; Matt is now an assistant basketball coach at Drake University. Andy is the owner of Signarama signs and KOSAMA.
