Hometown: Winter Park, CO | Alma Mater: Doane University ('24)
Alec Laraby enters his first season as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Mount Marty University following a highly successful stint as the program's Graduate Assistant. Laraby was promoted to a full-time Assistant Coach in the spring after proving himself to be a valuable asset to Head Coach Collin Authier's coaching staff.
Known for his high energy, detailed scouting reports, and relentless work ethic, Laraby primarily oversees player development, individual workouts, opponent scouting, film breakdown, and regional recruiting.
Originally from Winter Park, Colorado, Laraby graduated from Doane University with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications and a minor in Strength and Conditioning. He also earned a master's degree in Leadership from Mount Marty University while helping lead the Lancers on the recruiting trail and on the hardwood.
Before arriving in Yankton in the fall of 2024, Laraby spent three seasons as a student assistant coach at fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) member Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. Working under Head Coach Ian McKeithen, Laraby gained extensive experience in player development, daily program operations, recruiting, and scouting. During his time with the Tigers, he contributed to the development of two first-team All-GPAC selections and three second-team All-GPAC selections. His impact on player development and his experience within the program helped pave the way for his transition into the coaching ranks at Mount Marty.
Upon hiring Laraby, Lancers Head Coach Collin Authier praised his immediate impact:
"Alec has earned this opportunity through his work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to our student-athletes. He understands what it takes to build a program on and off the court, and he has a bright future in this profession."
