Coach Collin Authier
Head Coach, Men's Basketball | Mount Marty University
Coach Collin Authier is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Mount Marty University Lancer men's basketball program and has over 18 years of college basketball coaching experience. Since taking the reins, Coach Authier has established a strong foundation for success, bringing stability, consistency, and a clear identity to the team. His leadership has not only transformed the Lancer basketball program on the court but also fostered a culture of academic and personal excellence off the court.
Under Coach Authier’s guidance, the team’s GPA has soared to over 3.4, which is believed to be the highest in program history and places the Lancers among the Top 30 teams in the country for academic performance. This achievement reflects his unwavering commitment to developing student-athletes holistically - helping them thrive both as athletes and as individuals. His emphasis on academic achievement and overall development has been a driving force in the program’s transformation.
Coach Authier has also implemented a community service program that has led to over 1,000 hours of volunteer work annually, contributing to team unity and a sense of purpose that extends beyond basketball. This initiative underscores his belief in developing well-rounded student-athletes who are not only successful on the court but who are also actively engaged in their communities.
Coach Authier’s leadership philosophy is built around academic achievement, character development, and a commitment to service—values that align closely with Mount Marty University’s Benedictine mission. He believes that success in basketball is just one piece of the puzzle; his focus is on preparing student-athletes to excel in all aspects of life, both during and after their time at MMU.
“I want each student-athlete to have the best opportunity to be successful in all aspects of life,” Coach Authier says. “We will build a first-class culture of success and work continuously to achieve our goals so Lancer fans will be proud of what we do.”
As the Lancer men’s basketball program continues to grow, Coach Authier’s vision remains focused on cultivating a first-class culture that promotes excellence both on and off the court. He is dedicated to helping his players reach their full potential—preparing them to be leaders, both in basketball and in life, while representing Mount Marty University with pride.
Before joining MMU, Coach Authier spent seven seasons at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he played an instrumental role as an associate head coach. During his tenure at Augustana, the team captured the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship and posted an impressive 151-57 record over his final seven seasons. Coach Authier also played a key role in developing 30 All-conference players, 43 academic all-conference selections, and 5 freshmen of the year, solidifying his reputation as a developer of both athletic talent and student-athletes’ academic success.
Prior to his time at Augustana, Coach Authier served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi under head coach Willis Wilson. At Corpus Christi, he was integral in an academic transformation that saw the team's GPA reach an all-time high.
In addition to his achievements on the court, Coach Authier's focus on leadership and community fit were key factors in his selection by MMU. "We wanted a leader and a good basketball coach," says Andy Bernatow, MMU Athletic Director. "Coach Authier’s commitment to both athletic excellence and community engagement will be essential to the future success of our program."
Dr. Marc Long, president of MMU, also expressed his excitement about the hire: "We want to develop students who not only succeed in their chosen sport but who succeed in their careers following graduation. Finding a coach like Collin Authier who is committed to our Benedictine mission is important. We are excited to welcome him to campus and begin this next phase in Lancer basketball history."
