Jarius “JJ” Halligan enters his second season as an assistant coach on the Lancer’s staff. A native of Faith, SD, Halligan arrives at Mount Marty after serving as the graduate assistant coach for 2 seasons at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.
A three-year varsity letter winner who helped his high school team make consecutive trips to the state tournament as a junior and senior, Halligan spent his freshman year of college playing for the University of Great Falls in Montana. He then transferred to Augustana University to play basketball and begin his coaching journey.
As a student manager for the Vikings, Halligan helped with all aspects of the team, including player development, practices, travel, and statistics. During his time with the Vikings' coaching staff he helped the team achieve a 34-25 record, including a share of the NSIC South Division Championship in 2019.
While at the University of Mary, Halligan was tasked with player development, recruiting, film/scouting, academic advisory, team travel coordination, and on-floor coaching among other duties. The Marauders posted a record of 16-29 during his time with the team.
Coach Halligan resides in Yankton with his girlfriend Katie Baumgartner.
