Mount Marty University is proud to announce the appointment of Cassandra Brown as the new head coach of its softball program. Athletic Director Andy Bernatow made the announcement on Thursday, marking an exciting new chapter for the Lancers.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cassandra Brown to Mount Marty University," said Andy Bernatow. "Her extensive experience as both a player and a coach, combined with her commitment to the development of student-athletes, makes her an ideal fit for our program. We are confident that under her leadership, our softball team will continue to grow and succeed."

Cassandra Brown brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to softball, both as a coach and a former standout player. Brown served as the assistant coach for the NCAA Division 1, Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs from 2015 to 2017, where she specialized in developing pitchers and catchers under the guidance of former head coach Nakeya Hall.

Brown's journey with Alabama A&M began as a student-athlete. From 2010 to 2014, she was a dominant force on the mound, quickly becoming the team's ace pitcher as a freshman. Over her four-year playing career, she recorded an impressive 165 strikeouts in 80 appearances.

A native of Pembroke Pines, FL, Brown earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Alabama A&M in 2014, followed by a Master's degree in Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health in 2016.

In 2019, Brown was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and led her team to the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern Division Championship. She also became the youngest NCAA Division 1 head softball coach that year. Her players thrived under her leadership, with one being named the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year and another the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Hitter of the Year. In 2021, one of her players earned the title of Southwestern Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Over five seasons, she coached eight First-team Southwestern Athletic Conference players. Her outstanding coaching was further recognized when she received the 2023 Coach of the Year award for the Department of Athletics at Alabama A&M University. That year Brown was also named one of the Top 10 Youngest Division 1 Head Softball Coaches in the country by Extra Innings Softball.

Cassandra Brown expressed her excitement about joining the Mount Marty community, saying, "I am excited to join the Mount Marty family. I would like to thank our Athletic Director Andy Bernatow and the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity. I am excited to lead this team to a new era of Lancer Softball with the support of the University and community."
