Allan Bertram
Head Women’s Basketball Coach – 4th Season
Mount Marty University
Now in his fourth season as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Mount Marty University, Allan Bertram continues to bring a powerful blend of coaching experience, leadership, and player development to the Lancer program. A longtime South Dakota high school coach and founder of Sacred Hoops Basketball Academy, Bertram has dedicated his career to shaping athletes on and off the court.
Under Coach Allan Bertram’s leadership, his program has consistently excelled both academically and athletically. He has guided 21 student-athletes to Scholar-Athlete honors, while also leading three teams to Scholar Team recognition. On the field, his impact is equally evident, having coached five players to All-GPAC selections, reflecting the program's commitment to excellence in all areas.
Before joining Mount Marty, Bertram spent 19 years coaching both boys' and girls' basketball at the high school level, earning 254 career wins. He served as boys' head coach at Andes Central, Todd County, and Chamberlain—where he became the all-time winningest coach in program history. Over 12 seasons with the Chamberlain Cubs, he led the team to four Class A state tournament appearances, five district titles, four region championships, and six conference crowns.
Bertram also made a significant impact during his two seasons as girls' head coach at Rapid City Central, revitalizing the program with back-to-back trips to the State AA Tournament and securing the best regular-season record in school history.
Off the court, Bertram is widely respected for his leadership through Sacred Hoops Basketball Academy, which he co-founded in 2018 with Matt Rama and Eldon Marshall. The program provides basketball opportunities to athletes regardless of location and has grown into one of the largest AAU organizations in South Dakota, serving over 700 athletes across the Upper Midwest.
“My role as the owner and director of Sacred Hoops has allowed me to work with and help develop thousands of athletes,” Bertram said. “It’s given me the opportunity to connect with great families and coaches, which continues to strengthen the ties between Sacred Hoops and Mount Marty University.”
Athletic Director Andy Bernatow praised Bertram not only for his coaching success, but also for his values and influence: “While his coaching career is very impressive, we're equally inspired by Coach Bertram’s servant leadership and his passion for mentoring young athletes.”
Bertram remains committed to building a program centered on character, work ethic, and team unity—developing not just better basketball players, but stronger leaders for life.
