Cynthia Chavez

 Coach Chavez, who is originally from Palm Springs, Calif., comes to Mount Marty with an outstanding soccer resume. Prior to coming to Mount Marty, Chavez spent her playing career at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) and Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU). 

Chavez had a distinguished collegiate playing career in which she received many accolades. During her time at SBVC she was the leading goal-scorer in both seasons, scoring 26 total goals and adding eight assists.  In 2014 she was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2nd Team All-West Region and SBVC finished the year ranked No. 11 in the country. In 2015, at KWU, Chavez made an immediate impact leading the team to a 15-5-3 record and a NAIA National Tourney Appearance.  She was selected as the 2015 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-KCAC. In 2015, she also was selected to the All-Plains Region honors from the NSCAA. The 2016 season was another remarkable season for Chavez. She led KWU to a 16-3-3 record and a NAIA National Tourney Appearance. For her efforts she was named NAIA Women's Soccer Honorable Mention All-American Team. Chavez also earned NSCAA First Team All-Region honors for a second straight season. She was also named KCAC Co-Player of the Year and KCAC Offensive Player of the Year. Chavez finished her senior season with 26 goals and seven assists and a total of 59 offensive points on the season.

Chavez has continued to stay around the game of soccer following her playing career. She was a student-assistant the fall of 2017 for KWU and helped as a volunteer coach at the Salina Fieldhouse. Her career experiences also include being a Primary Counselor for Saint Francis Ministries and a Case Manager for Central Kansas Mental Health Center.
