Alec Laraby

Hometown: Winter Park, CO | Alma Mater: Doane University ('24)

Alec Laraby enters his first season as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach for Mount Marty University, following a highly successful stint as the program's Graduate Assistant. Laraby was promoted to full-time Assistant Coach in the spring after proving himself as a vital asset to Head Coach Collin Authier’s coaching staff.

Known for his high energy, in-depth scouting reports, and relentless work ethic, Laraby primarily oversees player development, individual workouts, opponent scouting, film breakdown, and regional recruiting.

Originally from Winter Park, Colorado, Laraby graduated from Doane University with a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications and a minor in Strength and Conditioning. He has a master's degree in Leadership from Mount Marty University while helping lead the Lancers on the recruiting trail and on the hardwood.

Before arriving in Yankton in the fall of 2024, Laraby spent three seasons as a student assistant coach at fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) member Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. Working under Head Coach Ian McKeithen, Laraby gained extensive experience in player development including 2 first team all GPAC players and 3 second all GPAC players, daily program operations, recruiting networks, and scouting. His impact in player development during his time with the Tigers paved the way for his transition into the coaching ranks at Mount Marty.

Upon hiring him, Lancers Head Coach Collin Authier praised Laraby's immediate impact:

"Alec has earned this opportunity through his work ethic, loyalty, and commitment to our student-athletes. He understands what it takes to build a program on and off the court, and he has a bright future in this profession."

A Proven Track Record of Success

  • Doane University (2021-22): As a key student assistant at Doane, Laraby was a part of one of the best seasons in Tigers history. During the 2021-22 campaign, Doane put together a phenomenal year, finishing with a 19-13 overall record and advancing all the way to the GPAC Tournament Semifinals.

  • Mount Marty (2025-26): In his role with the Lancers, Laraby helped guide the team through a monumental 2025-26 season. The team captured the most conference wins (13) in school history, secured the highest GPAC regular-season finish in school history, and boasted the top defense in the GPAC during that spectacular run.
