Cassandra Brown
Head Softball Coach – 2nd Season
Mount Marty University
Mount Marty University proudly welcomes Cassandra Brown into her second season as Head Softball Coach, bringing a dynamic mix of experience, leadership, and passion to the Lancer softball program.
Brown was appointed head coach in 2024 by Athletic Director Andy Bernatow, who praised her strong coaching background and dedication to student-athlete development. “Her extensive experience as both a player and a coach, combined with her commitment to the development of student-athletes, makes her an ideal fit for our program,” said Bernatow at the time of her hire.
A native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Brown began her softball career at Alabama A&M University, where she quickly rose to prominence as the team’s ace pitcher. From 2010 to 2014, she made 80 appearances and tallied 165 strikeouts, earning recognition for her competitive drive and leadership on the field. She later transitioned to coaching, serving as an assistant for the NCAA Division I Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs from 2015 to 2017, focusing on the development of pitchers and catchers under head coach Nakeya Hall.
In 2019, Brown made history by becoming the youngest NCAA Division I head softball coach in the nation, leading her team to a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Eastern Division Championship and earning SWAC Coach of the Year honors. Under her guidance, multiple players achieved top accolades, including the 2019 SWAC Player and Hitter of the Year, and the 2021 SWAC Freshman of the Year. Over five seasons, she coached eight First-Team All-Conference athletes. In 2023, she was recognized as Alabama A&M’s Department of Athletics Coach of the Year and was named one of the Top 10 Youngest Division I Head Softball Coaches by Extra Inning Softball.
Brown holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work from Alabama A&M, with her master’s concentration in Mental Health—reflecting her holistic approach to coaching and athlete development.
As she enters her second season with the Lancers, Coach Brown is focused on building a championship culture. “I am excited to lead this team into a new era of Lancer Softball with the support of the University and community,” Brown said. “Mount Marty is a special place, and I’m honored to be part of it.”
