Joe Chicks – Head Coach, Women’s Soccer

Hometown: Ridgefield, WA

Mount Marty University is proud to welcome Joe Chicks as the new head coach of the Lancer women’s soccer program. Chicks officially took the reins in February 2025, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record of excellence at both the high school and collegiate levels.

Coaching Background

Coach Chicks joins Mount Marty following a highly successful tenure at Lower Columbia College, where he served as the head women’s soccer coach from 2020 to 2024. Under his leadership, the program won three consecutive NWAC West Region Championships (2022–2024) and made back-to-back appearances in the NWAC Final Four (2022, 2023). His teams posted a remarkable 32-3-4 conference record during that span, including an undefeated season in 2022.

Chicks was named NWAC West Region Coach of the Year four times (2021–2024) and led the team to the highest GPA (3.75) among all athletic programs at Lower Columbia. The program also claimed three NWAC President’s Cups for academic performance under his guidance.

Before his collegiate success, Chicks served as the head girls soccer coach at Hockinson High School (2015–2019), where he led the Hawks to a 68-32-3 record, a WIAA 2A State Championship appearance in 2019, and two WIAA Academic State Championships. He began his coaching career at the club level and has remained deeply involved in player development and community service efforts throughout his career.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Chicks is committed to cultivating a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture. He emphasizes leadership, academic accountability, and personal development, aiming to help student-athletes grow into well-rounded individuals. His teams are known not only for their performance on the field, but also for their strong character, sportsmanship, and involvement in community initiatives.
