Marissa Caballero
Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach – 8th Season
Mount Marty University
Marissa Caballero enters her eighth season as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Mount Marty University, where she has played an integral role in the growth and transformation of the Lancer women’s basketball program. A relationship-driven coach, Caballero brings eight years of recruiting experience and plays a key role in player development, game preparation, and the day-to-day operation of the program. Her approach is centered on building strong relationships, developing competitive and confident student-athletes, and helping create a culture that prioritizes both team and individual success.
Since being promoted to a full-time assistant coaching role in 2021, Caballero has been part of a significant turnaround within the Lancer program. She has worked alongside the coaching staff to help establish a culture of accountability, competitiveness, and consistent development while competing in what is widely regarded as the best conference in NAIA women’s basketball. The 2025 season marked the program’s first winning season since 2015, while the Lancers also returned to the GPAC postseason for the first time since 2015 and earned a victory over the No. 9-ranked team in the country.
Recruiting has been a significant part of Caballero’s role throughout her eight years at Mount Marty. She is primarily responsible for recruiting high school and junior college student-athletes throughout Nebraska and South Dakota and is involved in all phases of the recruiting process, from prospect evaluation and initial contact to campus visits, admissions and financial aid, and scholarship offers. Her recruiting efforts have contributed to the development and success of numerous All-GPAC student-athletes.
In addition to recruiting, Caballero is actively involved in player development, practice planning, film breakdown, opponent scouting, game preparation, and the day-to-day operation of the program. She works closely with student-athletes throughout their collegiate careers, helping them develop both on and off the court while contributing to a culture that prioritizes growth, confidence, and team success.
Caballero has also played an active role in the holistic development of Mount Marty student-athletes through nutrition, fueling, recovery, and education initiatives designed to support performance. She believes developing successful student-athletes requires investment beyond basketball and has made building meaningful relationships and helping players grow as individuals a central part of her coaching philosophy.
Caballero began her coaching career at Mount Marty as a graduate assistant while earning her Master’s degree in Education and Coaching Leadership. Her experience as both a collegiate player and coach has shaped her approach to developing competitive, confident, and well-rounded student-athletes.
“Mount Marty is a university that prioritizes both academic and athletic excellence. Building personal coach-player relationships is at the heart of what I do, and I believe those relationships create the foundation for long-term success.”
A native of Grandview, Washington, Caballero began her collegiate playing career at Columbia Basin College, where she earned Magna Cum Laude honors and was a two-time All-NWAC Conference and All-Academic selection. She later transferred to Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, where she earned her degree in Kinesiology and was a two-year starter for the Argonauts. During the 2016–17 season, she was named PacWest Conference Newcomer of the Year and helped lead the program to its first conference tournament appearance. She concluded her collegiate playing career with 1,796 career points.
