Waxahachie, TX--
Mount Marty baseball headed south for the weekend. The Lancers played a double header between Tabor College out of Kansas and Southwestern Assemblies Of God out of Texas. MMU won the first game over Tabor 5-3 and lost the second game to SAGU 3-5. The Lancers are now 4-2 overall on the season.Â
Game One
Mount Marty took the lead late and defeated Tabor College 5-3 on Friday.  The game was tied at three with Mount Marty batting in the top of the seventh when
Braeden Cordes singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Noah McCandless led the Mount Marty to victory on the hill. The righthander lasted two innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Jett Hasegawa started the game for Mount Marty, the righty allowed two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven
Mount Marty launched two home runs on the day.
Will Gardner had a long ball in the third inning. Cordes went for the long ball in the fifth inning.
Mount Marty had five hits in the game. Â Cordes and Gardner all had multiple hits for Mount Marty. Â Gardner and Cordes all had two hits to lead Mount Marty.
Game Two
Mount Marty watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 5-3 loss to SAGU on Friday.Â
Mount Marty lost despite out-hitting SAGU nine to six.
Clayton Chipchase was on the hill, the righthander went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out two. Â
Heston Williams,
Jared Miller, and
Aspen Dahl each contributed in relief for the Lancers
Mount Marty hit one home run on the day.
Billy Hancock had a four bagger in the first inning.
The Lancers totaled nine hits in the game. Â
Bodi Wallar,
Braeden Cordes, and Hancock all managed multiple hits for MMU. Â Wallar led 2023Â MMUÂ with three hits in four at bats.
