Lancers Defeat The Broncos Securing The Sweep

Yankton, SD–

Mount Marty hosted Hastings College on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers won 72-63. Mount Marty is now 9-16 overall and 5-12 in GPAC play. Hastings is now 13-11 overall and 6-10 in GPAC play. 


Inside the Game

In the first half, the Lancers were 11-23 from the field shooting 47.8%. The Lancers were 3-10 from three and 12-14 from the free-throw line. In the first half, the score was tied twice and the game had two lead changes. Mount Marty went into halftime trailing the Broncos by 3. 

Kade Stearns started the second half with a three to tie the game at 40. A layup by Cole Bowen and two jumpers by Tash Lunday gave the Lancers an 11-0 run to start the second half. Hastings was finally able to score at 15:20 in the second half. Hastings was able to go on a little run of their own and closed the MMU lead to 3 with 11 minutes left in the game. The Lancers went on a three-minute score drought until Lunday was fouled and made both free throws. A couple of back-to-back threes from Mount Marty extended the lead back up to 11 with eight minutes left. Hastings scored a three with 2 minutes left to close the Lancer lead to two. A big answer by Jordre who slammed a dunk home to make the lead four again. A few late makes from Hastings kept the game close but Mount Marty was able to get the 82-78 win. 

In the game, Mount Marty had 13 bench points, 4 fast break points, 10 points off of turnovers, 4-second chance points, and 32 points in the paint. The Lancers were 27-48 from the field shooting 56.3% as a team. From the three-point line, the Lancers were 6-15 shooting 40%. At the free throw line, the Lancers were 22-25. Mount Marty had 12 assists as a team, with 2 blocks and 3 steals. Tash Lunday led the way with 25 points on 10-16 shooting and added 9 rebounds. Cole Bowen scored 20 points on 5-6 shooting and had a team high 4 assists. Lincoln Jordre had 15 points and 6 rebounds. Will Turner had 7 points, Kade Stearns had 5 points, Josh Arlt had 4 points, and Tristan Furgeson and Caden Casey each scored 3 points. 

 

Up Next

Mount Marty will go on the road twice next week before their season finale at Cimpl. Mount Marty will travel to Sioux Center on February 8th to play Dordt University at 7:45 PM. The Lancers will then travel back to Iowa again on February 11th where they will square off with Northwestern College starting at 3:45 PM. The men will then have their home regular-season finale when they host Doane University on February 15th tipping off at 7:45 PM.
