Sioux Center, IA -- Mount Marty played Briar Cliff University on Sunday to start GPAC play for the 2023 season. The games were held in Dordt University's Dome due to field conditions. The Lancers were swept by BCU, with game one's score being 10-1, and game two being a 1-0 loss. MMU moves to 7-10 on the season and is 0-2 to start GPAC play.
Game 1, L 10-1 (6 innings)
The Lancers had 1 run on five hits and committed two errors, while the Chargers collected 10 runs on 14 hits and zero errors.
McKenzie Gray started in the circle for the Lancers and is credited with loss of the game. Gray threw four innings, and gave up six earned runs, 10 hits, and two walks in the game.
Madison Kovar pitched the last one and one-third innings of the game. Kovar allowed four hits and one earned run in the game.
The Lancers lone run occurred in the fourth inning, with
Lilinoe Nihi singling to right field to score
Ella Ray. Besides the third inning, Briar Cliff was able to score a run in each inning.
Ella Ray led the team with two hits, and one run in three at-bats.

Janeah Castro, and
Lilinoe Nihi all picked up a hit in the game.
Game 2, L 1-0 (8 innings)
MMU had zero hits, runs, or errors in the game, and BCU had one run on six hits with zero errors.
Makayla Graunke threw a complete game for the Lancers and takes the loss for the game. Graunke battled through 27 at bats, and gave up one run on six hits and walked two batter.
The only run occurred in the bottom of the 8th, with BCU singling to center field to get the winning run across home plate.
Raegan Harper,
Janeah Castro, and
Bailey Kortan all reached based by getting walked. Harper was walked three times in the game.

The Lancers play their next GPAC double header this Saturday in the Mitchell against Dakota Wesleyan. These teams split last year, with MMU falling 4-6 in the first game and winning the second game 7-6. DWU is currently 5-18 on the season and 0-4 in GPAC play.
