Lancers Split with the Tigers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Yankton, SD -- Mount Marty and Dakota Wesleyan split on Sunday afternoon in GPAC action. The Tigers took the first game 5-3, and the Lancers took game two after putting up eight runs in the seventh inning to win 8-5. Both teams were able to pick up their first conference win in this contest. Mount Marty is now 8-11 on the season and 1-3 in GPAC play. 

Game 1, L 5-3
The Lancers were able to score 3 run on 7 hits in this game, and made one error. The Tigers put up 5 runs on 6 hits, while committing two errors in the game. 

Dakota Wesleyan got on the board in the first inning on a on passed ball to get a 1-0 lead. The Tigers added two more runs in the fourth after hitting a homerun. The Lancers were able to get two back in the fifth after Autumn Porter and Janeah Castro had back-to-back doubles to make it 4-2. Elisabeth McGill was able to get a base hit single in the sixth to bring home Sami Noble to make it a one point game. The Tigers were able to seal their lead and win after adding one more run in the sixth.

Makayla Graunke threw a complete game for the Lancers, facing 24 at-bats and getting nine strikeouts. Graunke gave up three earned runs on six hits. 

Seven different Lancers collected a hit in this game, with Castro, Porter, and McGill all getting an RBI as well. 

Game 2, W 8-5
Mount Marty was able to score 8 runs on 15 hits, and had 3 errors in the game. DWU scored 5 runs on 9 hits and made no errors throughout the game.

The Tigers were able to get an early lead in the game, putting 3 runs on the board in the first inning. Dakota Wesleyan added one more run in the fourth inning to have a 4-0 lead. Mount Marty was finally able to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning, scoring eight runs in this half inning to take an 8-4 lead. Sami Noble hit a single to score Ella Ray to give the Lancers their first lead of the day. DWU took one back in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 8-5.

McKenzie Gray (3-5) started in the circle for the Lancers and picked up the win after throwing six innings. Gray collected six strikeouts in 27 at bats, and had four earned runs on eight hits. Madison Kovar closed out the game, giving up one hit, one run, and collecting one strikeout. 

Eight Lancers picked up a hit today, with seven of them getting two in the game. Seven Lancers also picked up an RBI throughout the game, with Kaylee Jacinito getting two to lead the team.

Up Next
The Lancers will play again this Tuesday in Sioux Center, Iowa, where they will be taking on Dordt University at 5:00 PM. Mount Marty won the previous game against the Defenders 3-1, and currently have a 6-game winning streak against DU.
