Mount Marty baseball traveled down to Kansas once again for a four game set against Benedictine College. Mount Marty swept the day of Saturday, game one the Lancers won 13-10 and in game two they won 5-2. Mount Marty is now 11-2 on the season.Â
Game One
Mount Marty jumped out to an early lead over Benedictine College and took home a 13-10 victory on Saturday. Â The Lancers scored on a single by
William Johnson, a double by
Braeden Cordes, a sacrifice fly by
Billy Hancock, and a home run by
Bodi Wallar in the second inning.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Mount Marty collected 15 hits and Benedictine College eight in the high-scoring affair
The Lancers pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning.  In the second Johnson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, Cordes doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs, Hancock's sac fly scored one run for Mount Marty, and Wallar homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.
Chris Rofe took the win for the righty allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out ten. Â
Heston Williams,
Caden Eymann, and
Noah McCandless all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.
Mount Marty smacked one home run on the day. Wallar had a homer in the second inning.
The Lancers racked up 15 hits on the day. Â Johnson, Cordes, Hancock,
Josh Mares, and Wallar each had multiple hits for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity. Â Johnson led MMU with three hits in four at bats. Â MMUÂ didn't commit a single error in the field. Hancock had 12 chances in the field, the most on the team.
Game TwoÂ
MMU was victorious over Benedictine College, 5-2
Mount Marty fired up the offense in the first inning, when
Bodi Wallar singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
Myles Brown got the win for the righthander allowed five hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out nine. Â
Zane Pollon threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Wallar led Mount Marty with two hits in three at bats.
