Lancers Split on Day Two of Friends Tournament

Wichita, KS -- The Lancers played two more games in the Friends Tournament on Saturday, going 1-1 on the day. Mount Marty went 1-3 overall in the tournament, with their overall record moving to 5-7. The first game of the day was a rematch against Avila University, with the Lancers getting a 8-7 win. The team faced MidAmerica Nazarene next and fell with a final score of 7-4.

Mount Marty was able to get eight runs on 10 hits and only made two errors. Avila had seven runs on nine hits, and committed two errors in the game. 

Makayla Graunke started in the circle for the Lancers and picked up the win after pitching the first five innings. Graunke faced 24 batters, picked up eight strikeouts in the game, gave up three earned runs and allowed six hits. Hannah Keith finished the game for the team, throwing the last two innings. Keith gave up three hits and three earned runs. 

The Lancers were able to avoid Avila's seventh inning comeback, and finish the game at 8-7. Elisabeth McGill and Autumn Porter both hit a homerun in the game to help take the team to victory. Eight different Lancers got a hit in the game, with Porter and Reagan Harper leading the team with two hits.

Mount Marty had  four runs on 11 hits and committed three errors. MidAmerica Nazarene put up seven runs on 10 hit and had two errors in the game. 

McKenzie Gray picks up the loss after pitching the first five innings. Gray had five strikeouts in the game and gave up nine hits and five earned runs. Madison Kovar finished out the game for the team, throwing the last two innings. Kovar faced seven batters, and gave up zero runs and one hit. 

Autumn Porter and Elisabeth McGill both picked up three hits in this game. Oliva Valdez had two hits and two RBIs to lead MMU. 

Up Next
The softball team will be traveling back to Kansas next weekend to play in McPherson. On March 10th, MMU will play Mayville State University at 11:15 AM and Evangel at 3:45 PM. On March 11th, the team faces Tabor College at 9:00 AM and McPherson College at 1:15 PM. 

The Lancers beat Mayville State on February 17h 5-1. MMU last played McPherson College on March 13th, 2022, falling 4-0. This will be the first time MMU plays Evangel and Tabor College.
