McPherson, KS -- The Lancers traveled down to compete in the McPherson College Classic over the weekend, going 2-1. Mount Marty started Friday with a 6-0 win over Mayville State University and ended the day with a 10-2 loss to Evangel in five innings. On Saturday, MMU took down Tabor College 11-6. The team's last scheduled game was canceled due to weather conditions. Mount Marty is now 7-8 on the season.
MMU vs Mayville State, W 6-0
Mount Marty had six runs on seven hits and committed one error in the game to win. Mayville State had zero runs on four hits and committed five errors throughout the game.
Makayla Graunke started in the circle for the Lancers and picked up the win. Graunke pitched the first five innings. had eight strikeouts in the game, and gave up zero runs on two hits.
Regan Garry closed out the game, throwing the last two innings. Garry faced nine batters, had one strikeout, and did not allow any runs on two hits.
The Lancers were able to build a 4-0 lead in the second inning, and added two more runs in the sixth inning to get the 6-0 win. Six different players picked up a hit, with
Olivia Valdez leading the team with two.
Kayleen Jacinto had two RBIs in the game, while
Sarah Hart, Reagan Harper, and Valdez all had one.
MMU vs Evangel, L 10-2 (5 innings)
Mount Marty put up two runs on five hits and committed four errors. Evangel had 10 runs on eight hits and had zero errors in the game.Â
The team was able to jump to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with
Elisabeth McGill hitting a single to score both
Ella Ray and
Sami Noble. The Lancers were able to hold onto this lead until the fourth inning, with Evangel taking a 3-2 lead. The Valors added seven more runs in the fifth to get the 10-2 victory in five innings.Â
McKenzie Gray threw the first 6.1 innings of the game and is given the loss. Gray had one strikeout and gave up six earned runs.
Hannah Keith threw the last two-thirds of the inning and allowed two earned runs.Â
Lilinoe Nihi led the team with two hits in the game,
Regan Garry, McGill, and Ray all added one hit. Elisabeth had the two lone RBIs in the game.Â
MMU vs Tabor College, W 11-6
The Lancers had 11 runs on 13 hits and committed 1 error in the game. Tabor scored six runs on seven hits and had two errors.
The score was tied 1-1 after the first inning, however the Lancers were able to take the 6-3 lead after the second. The team added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 11-4. Tabor was able to take two back in the sixth to make the final score 11-6.
McKenzie Gray started the game for MMU and is credited with the win. Gray had two strikeouts and gave up seven hits and six earned runs.
Hannah Keith finished out the game and allowed zero runs or hits.Â
Nine different players had hits in the game, with
Elisabeth McGill leading with three hits and four RBIs. Both Gray and
Ella Ray had two hits.Â

Mount Marty will have their first home game of the season take place this weekend, pending the weather and field conditions. MMU will be hosting Presentation College on March 18th and 19th.Â
