Lancers Sweep the Jimmies

YANKTON -- Mount Marty hosed Jamestown University for their first official home game of the 2022-23 season. The Lancers were able to sweep the Jimmies to improve their overall record to 12-13 and their conference record to 5-5. MMU is now sitting 8th in the conference and are .5 game back from Doane and 1 game back from Hastings and Briar Cliff. 

Game 1, W 3-1
Mount Marty was able to get on the board first after Janeah Castro brought Ella Ray home on a groundout to second base in the bottom of the fourth. The Jimmies tied the game up 1-1 in the top of the fifth after hitting a double to deep left field. However, the Lancers were able to respond and get two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 3-1 game. The first run this inning came from a throwing error made by the catcher, allowing Elisabeth McGill to get home and Sydney Kotz to advance to third. Kotz was able to score later after an error was made by the first basemen. 

Makayla Graunke threw a complete game for the Lancers and picked up her fifth win of the season. Graunke faced 22 at-bats, striking out six of them, walking two, and gave up one hit and run in the game. 

Ella Ray and Elisabeth McGill picked up to the two lone hits for the team, with Ray also swiping a bag in the game as well. Castro had the only RBI for the team. 

Game 2, W 4-1
Jamestown was able to strike first in the second game, getting their only run in the top of the fourth inning. The Jimmies scored on a single to right field, bringing home their runner on second. Mount Marty tied up the game in the fifth inning after Abigail Page doubled to left field to bring home Elisabeth McGill. The Lancers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs to make it a 4-1 score. The scored on of three separate hits to the outfield.

McKenzie Gray started in the circle for the team and picked up her fifth win of the season. Gray faced 22 at-bats, striking out six batters and allowing one run on four hits. Madison Kovar pitched the last inning to help secure the MMU sweep. Kovar had one strikeout and allowed zero hits or runs. 

Six different Lancers picked up a hit in this game, with McGill leading with two. Lilinoe Nihi, McGill, and Page all collected an RBI in this game. 

Up Next
The Lancers are at home all weekend long, hosting two teams for two doubleheaders. On Friday, the Lancers will be hosting Morningside University and celebrating Youth Day. The games against the Mustangs will be roughly around 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

Following that DH, the Lancers will host College of Saint Mary's on Saturday while also having Bark at the Park. The first game will start at noon, with the other starting roughly around 2:00 PM.
