Mount Marty was once again on the road for a GPAC series with Morningside. The Lancers went 1-3 in the series against the Mustangs. Mount Marty is now 25-8 overall and 8-4 in GPAC play. Morningside is now 21-8 overall and 7-3 in GPAC play. 

Game One 

2023 Mount Marty Varsity fell 9-6 to Morningside University on Saturday despite out-hitting them 11 to ten.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity collected 11 hits and Morningside University had ten in the high-scoring affair.

Morningside University opened up scoring in the first inning, when #6 hit a solo homer.

Morningside University pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning.  In the third an error scored two runs for Morningside University.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity scored three runs in the fifth inning.  2023 Mount Marty Varsity's offense in the inning came from a groundout by William Johnson and an error on a ball put in play by Kalub Ramirez.

Morningside University scored three runs in the fourth inning.  #12 and #5 each had RBIs in the frame.

#20 led things off on the hill for Morningside University. The pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Myles Brown started the game for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity. The righty surrendered five runs on five hits over two and a third innings, striking out four.  Zach Hegge and Heston Williams entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity hit one home run on the day. Will Gardner put one out in the third inning.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity totaled 11 hits.  Josh Mares, Braeden Cordes, and Billy Hancock each collected multiple hits for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.  Mares led 2023 Mount Marty Varsity with three hits in three at bats.

Game Two 

2023 Mount Marty Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 14-5 loss to Morningside University on Sunday.  Morningside University scored on a single by #22 in the first inning, a single by #5 in the first inning, and a sacrifice fly by #6 in the second inning.

The 2023 Mount Marty Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Morningside University, giving up 14 runs.

In the first inning, Morningside University got their offense started when #22 singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

#37 was the winning pitcher for Morningside University. The ace allowed six hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four.  #48 threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Clayton Chipchase led things off on the pitcher's mound for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity. The pitcher surrendered five runs on five hits over one and two-thirds innings, walking zero.  Jett Hasegawa and Caden Eymann entered the game from the bullpen, throwing five and a third innings and one inning respectively.

Ethan Wishon, Josh Mares, Billy Hancock, Kalub Ramirez, William Johnson, and Braeden Cordes all had one hit to lead 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.

Game Three 

Even though 2023 Mount Marty Varsity gave up four runs in the second inning, they still defeated Morningside University 5-4 on Monday.  #9, #23, and #6 each had RBIs in the frame.

Morningside University took an early lead in the second inning.  #6 singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity knotted the game up at four in the top of the third inning.  Bodi Wallar drove in one when Wallar singled.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity took the lead for good with one run in the fourth inning.  In the fourth an error scored one run for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.

Jared Miller got the win for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity. The righty allowed six hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

#8 was on the hill for Morningside University. The bulldog went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out nine.  #14 threw one inning out of the bullpen.

2023 Mount Marty Varsity had eight hits in the game.  Billy Hancock, Josh Mares, and Wallar each racked up multiple hits for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.  Wallar, Mares, and Hancock each managed two hits to lead 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.

Game Four

Monday's game against Morningside University was a heartbreaker for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity, as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat.  The game was tied at two with Morningside University batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run for Morningside University.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Morningside University pitchers struck out five, while 2023 Mount Marty Varsity sat down six.

Morningside University evened things up at two in the bottom of the fifth inning.  #23's sac fly scored one run for Morningside University.

#10 got the win for Morningside University. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out five and walking zero.

Chris Rofe took the loss for 2023 Mount Marty Varsity. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out six and walking zero.

Bodi Wallar, Tyler Linch, Josh Mares, Billy Hancock, Will Gardner, and Braeden Cordes each managed one hit to lead 2023 Mount Marty Varsity.

Mount Marty will host its first home games and series of the year on Easter weekend. The Lancers will host Midland University on April 7th and 8th. Both days will start at 1 PM.
