Lancers Swept by the Defenders

Sioux Center, IA -- Mount Marty traveled to Sioux Center to take on the Dordt Defenders for the team's third GPAC contest. The Lancers fell to the Defenders in both games, losing game one 5-1, and game two 2-1. The team is now 8-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Game One, L 5-1
The Lancers were able to score one run on three hits and committed zero errors in this contest. Dordt scored five runs on six hits and had one error. 

This game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Defenders were able to add four runs on the board. The Lancers were able to take one back in the sixth to make it 4-1 after Janeah Castro doubled to center field to score Autumn Porter. However, Dordt was able to make it 5-1 in the bottom half of the sixth to bring us the final score.

McKenzie Gray (3-6) threw the compete game for the Lancers and takes the loss Gray had seven striekouts, walked two batters, and gave five runs on six hits.

Lilinoe Nihi picked up two hits in this game to lead the team while Janeah Castro had one hit. Castro had the lone Lancer RBI. 

Game Two, L 2-1
Mount Marty was able to get one run on the board after getting six hits and commiting one error. The Defenders scored two runs on five hits.

Dordt got their two runs on the board in the first inning. Both were unearned after one player scored on a wild pitch and the scoring on an RBI single to center field. 

Mount Marty was able to make it a one point game in the fifth inning after Abigail Page doubled to center field to bring Olivia Valdez home to make it 2-1. 

Makayla Graunke threw the complete game for the Lancers, getting five strikeouts, giving up five hits, and not allowing an earned run. 

Olivia Valdez and Lilinoe Nihi both collected two hits in the game to lead the team. Bailey Kortan and Abigial Page also had a hit, with Page getting the RBI. 

Up Next
Mount Marty travels to Hastings, Neb. this Saturday to take on the Hastings Broncos in a GPAC contest. Hastings is currently sitting fourth in the conference with a 5-1 record (11-13 overall). The Lancers split with Hastings last year, winning the second game 12-1.
