Lancers Sweep the Broncos

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Mount Marty swept Hastings College on Saturday in a GPAC contest to improve to a 10-13 overall record and 3-4 conference record. The Lancers took the first game 5-4, and shut the Broncos out 4-0.

Game One, W 5-4
Mount Marty was able to secure game one after putting up four runs in the fifth inning. The Lancers had five runs on six hits with zero errors, while Hastings had four runs on seven hits and committed one error.

Makayla Graunke started for MMU and picked up the win after throwing five and one-thirds of an inning. Hannah Keith was credited with her first save of the season after finishing out the last one and two-thirds inning. The two collected seven strikeouts total in the game.

Mount Marty was able to take the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Sami Noble doubled to right field to score Janeah Castro. However, in the bottom of the fourth Hastings quickly took away the lead with a two-run home run.

Three separate hits in the fifth inning brought home four runs to help give Mount Marty a 5-2 lead. The Lancers were able to fend off the Hastings comeback to get the 5-4 win.

Janeah Castro went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Lancers, getting two runs and one RBI in the process. Four other Lancers were able to pick up hits in the contest.

Game Two, W 4-0
Mount Marty used Autumn Porter's 3-run home run in the top of the sixth to seal the sweep. MMU first got on board in third inning after Lilinoe Nihi singled to right field to bring home Ella Ray. Strong defense was able to fend off any Bronco runs and hold them to just one run in the game.

McKenzie Gray picked up the win to move to 4-6 on the season after throwing the first six innings for the Lancers. She had four strikeouts and gave up one hit. Madison Kovar threw the last inning to help keep MMU on top.

Sami Noble and Nihi led the team with two hits each, while Autumn Porter led the team in RBIs with three.
