The Lancer cross country teams competed at the 2024 GPAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Doane University, in Ashland, NE at the Olsson XC Course at Mahoney State Park.
In the men's 8k race, the Lancers finished 4th as a team scoring 132 points. They improved on their 6th-place finish from last season's championships. Senior Logan Ferrari and freshman Joseph Cross earned All-GPAC honors with their top-15 finishes. Ferrari (26:09.10) placed 6th, and Cross (26:28.10) placed 10th.
Six additional athletes represented the Lancer men in the race. Sophomore Owen Koontz (28:03.50) and junior Tague Tvedt (29:14.20) placed in the top 50 with their 34th- and 50th-place finishes, respectively. Sophomore Jacob Kueny (29:41.80) finished in 55th place, freshman Zaelyn Varner (30:25.70) finished in 62nd place, junior David Phillips (33:16.50) finished in 78th place, and sophomore Alan Santiago (33:27.20) finished in 80th place.
In the women's 6k race, the Lancers finished 9th as a team scoring 264 points. They improved on their 10th-place finish from last season's championships. Freshman Isabella Ramsgard (25:15.20) turned in the top performance with her 28th-place finish. Sophomore Alexis Gosch (25:51.00) also placed in the top 50 with her 43rd-place finish.Â
Three additional athletes represented the Lady Lancers in the race. Freshman Rachel Erk (29:14.70) finished 80th, sophomore Josey Wahlstrom (31:17.70) finished 84th, and senior Ashinee George (32:08.30) finished 85th.
The Lancers will now prepare for the indoor track and field season. Their first meet will be the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi's at South Dakota State University on December 6-7.
