Lancers Split with Division II U of M- Crookston on Saturday

Game One:

In a hard-fought game, the Mount Marty University Lancers emerged victorious over the University of Minnesota- Crookston with a final score of 6-4.

Mount Marty's offense came alive with key contributions from various players. Autumn Porter showcased her speed on the bases, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Megan Toplovich provided a significant offensive spark with a triple and two RBIs, while Makayla Hudson delivered a crucial home run and two RBIs of her own.

On the defensive side, Mount Marty's pitching duo of Jacey Hayen and Makayla Graunke held U of M- Crookston's offense in check. Hayen earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out three. Graunke secured the save, pitching two scoreless innings and giving up three hits while striking out two.

Despite a solid offensive effort from the Golden Eagles, highlighted by multiple extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning, they ultimately fell short. Mount Marty's pitching staff effectively managed the game, limiting U-M Crookston's scoring opportunities and securing the victory.

Game Two:

In the second game of the day, the Mount Marty University Lancers fell in 8 innings to the University of Minnesota- Crookston Golden Eagles with a final score of 6-7.

The game started with Mount Marty putting up a solid effort at the plate, scoring 6 runs on 8 hits. Notable performances came from Autumn Porter, Olivia Valdez, and Raegan Harper, who each contributed with key hits and RBIs. Despite their offensive efforts, the Lancers couldn't quite hold off their opponents due to the errors that they had committed.

Defensively, Mount Marty had some struggles, committing a couple of errors that allowed U-M Crookston to capitalize and score runs. McKenzie Gray pitched valiantly for 5.2 innings, but ultimately took the loss despite striking out 7 batters. Madison Kovar came in relief but couldn't stop the opposing offense from securing the win.

U of M- Crookston proved to be a tough opponent, led by strong performances from their hitters, including a home run from S. Grant. Their pitchers, particularly Dombrowsk, held Mount Marty's offense in check for the later part of the game.

The Lancers faced their downfall in the bottom of the 8th inning, as U-M Crookston executed a bunt and Mount Marty's fielding error at first base allowed the Golden Eagles' baserunner on second to cross home plate.

The Lancers will be back in action today, February 11th, as they take on Buena Vista University at 2:00PM and 4:00PM at the American State Bank Complex in Sioux Center, IA.
