The Mount Marty University softball team completed their opening weekend with a non-conference double header split against Culver-Stockton College at the American State Bank Sports Complex Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Game One: In the first game, Culver-Stockton managed to score 5 runs with a total of 8 hits. S. Ashby led the offensive charge with 2 runs and 2 hits. Mount Marty's defense held strong, and
McKenzie Gray secured the win as the pitcher with a final score of 13-5.
Abby Johnson,
Kayleen Jacinto, and
Autumn Porter delivered strong performances, with Porter hitting a home run and accumulating 5 RBIs. Johnson tallied 3 Hits, 3 Runs with 1 RBI, while Jacinto had 1 Hit, 2 Runs, 1 Walk, and 1 RBI.
Elisabeth McGill and
Olivia Valdez also played crucial roles, tallying 2 RBI's a piece, contributing to the team's success. The Lancers scored three runs in the second inning, six runs in the fourth, and four more in the sixth inning to pull away from Culver-Stockton. Pitcher
McKenzie Gray earned the win with a solid performance on the mound, where she pitched 5 Innings with 6 Strikeouts, and was supported by
Madison Kovar in relief.
Game Two: In the final game of the series, Mount Marty University faced a setback with a 4-3 loss to Culver-Stockton. Despite a valiant effort, Culver-Stockton's Makayla Slavik proved to be a tough opponent on the mound. Mount Marty's
Jacey Hayen started the game, and
Madison Kovar provided relief, but they couldn't secure the win. Despite the loss, Mount Marty displayed resilience, and
Abby Johnson,
Megan Toplovich, and
Lilinoe Nihi contributed to the team's offensive efforts. Johnson tallied 1 Hit, Toplovich had 2 Runs, and Nihi had 1 Hit and 1 RBI.
The Lancers will be back in action next weekend on February 10th and 11th at the American State Bank Sports Complex Dome in Sioux Center Iowa, where they will take on U of M- Crookston at 2 & 4 PM Saturday and Buena Vista University 2 & 4 PM on Sunday.
