The Morningside Mustangs (8-3) kept the Mount Marty University Lancers (7-2) off of the scoreboard in non-conference play on Wednesday, March 20th, ultimately sweeping the Lancers with a 7-0 win.
In doubles play, Lancer pairs Alexander Makarov/P. Rivest and Jose Andrade/Alejandro Polo both fell to Morningside squads with final scores of 6-2. Mount Marty's duo of Langerholz and Lainer also came up short to the Mustangs with a final score of 6-1.Â
In singles play, the Lancers had six athletes compete against the Mustangs. The solo competitors for Mount Marty were Rivest (6-0,6-1), Makarov (6-2, 6-1), Andrade (6-2, 6-3), Lainer (6-1, 6-1) and Langerholz (6-3, 6-2). Alejandro Polo was a standout in singles for the Lancers, battling against Morningside's Mikhil Raja with scores of 6-2 and 7-6. Ultimately, Polo lost in a tie-breaker 7-4.
The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday, March 23rd, as they compete with Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE at 1:00PM. Mount Marty will begin GPAC conference play next Friday, March 29th, in Yankton against Midland University.Â
