Baseball: Lancers Wrap Up Florida With Extra Innings Loss To #1 Southeastern and #7 Bellevue

Lakeland, FL

Mount Marty wrapped up its Florida schedule on Friday night. The Lancers lost in 10 innings to #1 Southeastern University 4-3 and then lost to #7 Bellevue University 9-4. The Lancers finished the trip 5-4 and improved to 14-7 on the season.

Southeastern (Fla.) Triumphs Over Mount Marty in Extra Innings, 4-3

In a tightly contested matchup that extended into extra innings, Southeastern (Fla.) emerged victorious over Mount Marty with a final score of 4-3, showcasing their resilience and determination on the field.

Mount Marty took an early lead in the second inning when Ryan Bachman blasted a solo home run to center field, giving them a 1-0 advantage. However, Southeastern responded quickly in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on an error by the shortstop to allow Tommy Davis to score, tying the game at 1-1.

Southeastern took the lead in the third inning when Christopher Munoz advanced to second base on a balk, allowing Isaac Nunez to score, making it 2-1 in favor of Southeastern. Mount Marty fought back in the fourth inning, with Bodi Wallar's double to left center driving in Kiko Nunez to tie the game once again at 2-2. Ethan Wishon's groundout to second base then brought in Bachman, giving Mount Marty a 3-2 lead.

Southeastern leveled the score in the fifth inning when Luis Gonzalez's double brought in Munoz, knotting the score at 3-3. The game remained deadlocked until the tenth inning when Landrey Wilkerson reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Edward Surinach to score on a throwing error by the first baseman, securing the victory for Southeastern with a final score of 4-3.

Both teams displayed impressive performances on the mound, with Robb Adams starting for Southeastern and pitching four innings, allowing three runs. Cobe Reeves and Bryce McDonald also contributed strong relief performances for Southeastern, shutting down Mount Marty's offense. Noah McCandless started for Mount Marty, pitching five innings and allowing three runs, while Clayton Chipchase provided solid relief pitching.

Bellevue (NE) Defeats Mount Marty 9-4 in a Hard-Fought Contest

In an intense battle on the diamond, Bellevue (NE) emerged victorious over Mount Marty with a final score of 9-4, showcasing their resilience and offensive prowess.

Mount Marty got off to a strong start in the first inning when Aidan Chang smashed a solo home run to right center, putting them ahead 1-0. However, Bellevue quickly responded in the second inning when CJ Townsend's single to left center brought in Nick Grade, tying the game at 1-1.

Mount Marty regained the lead in the second inning courtesy of Garret Damico's single up the middle, driving in William Johnson and putting Mount Marty ahead 2-1. However, Bellevue surged ahead in the fourth inning, with CJ Townsend's fielder's choice bringing in Grade to tie the game once again at 2-2. Jake Lacey's double to right field then brought in two more runs for Bellevue, giving them a 4-2 lead.

Bellevue extended their lead in the fifth inning when Steven Elsner launched a solo home run to left center, making it 5-2. They further solidified their lead in the sixth inning when Logan Grant's homer to left center brought in two more runs, pushing the score to 7-2.

Mount Marty fought back in the sixth inning, with Ryan Bachman's double down the left field line bringing in Will Gardner, narrowing the gap to 7-3. Bodi Wallar's groundout to first base then allowed Bachman to score, bringing Mount Marty within striking distance at 7-4.

Despite Mount Marty's efforts, Bellevue maintained their lead throughout the game. In the ninth inning, Townsend's sacrifice fly to right field brought in Anthony Lind, extending Bellevue's lead to 8-4. Lacey then sealed the victory for Bellevue with another double down the left field line, bringing in Samuel Fortier and securing the final score of 9-4.

Bellevue's Gavin Wuschke delivered a solid performance on the mound, earning the win after pitching six innings and allowing four runs. Mount Marty's Jared Miller took the loss, pitching four innings and giving up five runs.


Up Next 

The Lancers will host Northwestern College on March 15th with first pitch at 2 PM. The Lancers will then host Doane University on March 17th with first pitch at noon. This will be the opening weekend for the GPAC season.
