Baseball: Lancers Sweep Hastings Day One

Game One

Mount Marty Shuts Out Hastings in 3-0 Victory

Mount Marty secured a solid 3-0 win against Hastings in a well-played game.

The scoring started in the third inning when Bodi Wallar's single to right field brought Aidan Chang home, giving Mount Marty a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Mount Marty extended their lead when Ethan Wishon reached base on a fielder's choice, allowing Joe Gokie to score, making it 2-0.

Mount Marty's offense continued to shine in the sixth inning when Ryan Bachman launched a homer to left field, adding another run to their tally and securing a 3-0 lead.

Pitcher Zach Hegge delivered an outstanding performance, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings and allowing only six hits while striking out one batter. He was supported by Caden Eymann, who pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to secure the shutout victory for Mount Marty.

For Hastings, James Velasquez pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out two batters. Jaden Jurgensmier pitched the final two innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Game Two

Mount Marty Powers Past Hastings 15-7

Mount Marty delivered a dominant performance, defeating Hastings with a commanding score of 15-7.

The game started with Mount Marty taking an early lead in the first inning when Kiko Nunez's single down the right-field line brought home Shugo Kondo and Bodi Wallar, giving Mount Marty a 2-0 advantage. Hastings quickly responded in the bottom of the first, with Tyler Kissler's single to right field driving in Jared Delgado to narrow the gap to 2-1.

Mount Marty extended their lead in the second inning, capitalizing on errors by Hastings to score three more runs. Joe Gokie reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Christian Berry to score, and Aidan Chang followed up with a single to right field, bringing home Gokie. A steal of home by Gokie further padded Mount Marty's lead, making it 5-1.

In the fourth inning, Mount Marty's Ethan Wishon added another run with a sacrifice fly, bringing Chang home to make it 6-2. Hastings responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth when Dylan Otto grounded out to second, allowing Eli Merritt to score, cutting the deficit to 6-3.

Hastings continued to fight back, scoring another run in the fifth inning on Mason Masur's single to left field, making it 6-4. However, Mount Marty exploded with a five-run seventh inning, highlighted by Nunez's two-RBI single and Gokie's RBI single, extending their lead to 11-4.

Despite a late rally from Hastings, including a three-run seventh inning, Mount Marty's offense remained relentless. They added three more insurance runs in the ninth inning, securing their victory with a final score of 15-7.

Mount Marty's offensive prowess was complemented by a solid pitching performance, with Jared Miller earning the win after pitching four innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out four batters.
