Mount Marty wrapped up its 4 game set against Hastings on Sunday afternoon. The Lancers swept the four game set against Hastings. With the sweep the Lancers are now 25-16 overall and 11-9 in GPAC play.Â
Game One
Mount Marty Takes Down Hastings 4-2
Mount Marty emerged victorious against Hastings with a 4-2 win in a closely contested matchup.
The game began with Mount Marty swiftly taking the lead in the first inning. Shugo Kondo's triple down the right-field line drove in Ethan Wishon and Bodi Wallar, giving Mount Marty an early 2-0 advantage. They extended their lead to 3-0 when Kiko Nunez grounded out, allowing Evan Bock to score.
In the fourth inning, Mount Marty added another run when Joe Gokie singled to center field, bringing home Ryan Bachman to make it 4-0.
Hastings fought back in the fifth inning, with Tyler Kissler's single to left field driving in Jaden Stone, narrowing the deficit to 4-1. Jace Valdez's sacrifice fly to center field allowed Jared Delgado to score, bringing Hastings within two runs at 4-2.
However, Mount Marty's pitching held strong, limiting Hastings to just two runs despite their efforts. Slayder Watterson earned the win for Mount Marty, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four batters. Aspen Dahl and Danny Mosarah also contributed solid relief pitching to secure the victory, with Mosarah recording the save.
On the mound for Hastings, Danny Wisor pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five hits while striking out one batter. Alec Fichter pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
With this win, Mount Marty improved their season record to 24-16, while Hastings fell to 12-29.
Game Two
Mount Marty Secures Victory Over Hastings, 8-5
In a hard-fought battle, Mount Marty emerged victorious with an 8-5 win over Hastings.
The game started with Mount Marty taking an early lead in the first inning. Kiko Nunez's single to right field brought Bodi Wallar home, giving Mount Marty a 1-0 lead.
However, Hastings responded strongly in the third inning, scoring three unearned runs. Ben Richter reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Tristan Martinez and Matt Lucero to score on an error by the first baseman. Jace Valdez then singled to third base, bringing Richter home to give Hastings a 3-1 lead.
Hastings extended their lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning when Tyler Kissler doubled to right field, driving in Jaden Stone.
Mount Marty narrowed the gap in the sixth inning when Ryan Bachman's sacrifice fly to center field allowed Shugo Kondo to score, making it 4-2.
Mount Marty seized control of the game in the seventh inning, erupting for five runs. Bachman doubled to center field, driving in three runs, followed by a double from Will Gardner, bringing Bachman home. Evan Bock then singled to right field, driving in Gardner, giving Mount Marty a 7-4 lead.
Hastings managed to add another run in the seventh inning when Valdez reached first on an error by the shortstop, allowing Jared Delgado to score, narrowing the deficit to 7-5.
Mount Marty secured their victory in the eighth inning when Wallar homered, extending their lead to 8-5.
Noah McCandless pitched seven solid innings for Mount Marty, allowing five runs (only two earned) on ten hits while striking out six batters. Caden Eymann and Clayton Chipchase contributed solid relief pitching to secure the win.
Markus Miller started on the mound for Hastings, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out ten batters. Esteban Acevedo, Cooper Gierhan, and Jaden Jurgensmier also pitched in relief.
With this win, Mount Marty improved their season record to 25-16, while Hastings fell to 12-30.
